Born in Harry Watch Manchester in 1958, My family migrated to a district Top Hill in Manchester because my dad was a Principal and was transferred to that school zone in 1966. Most of the residents depend on farming or the then bauxite company "Alcan Kirkvine" for their livelihood. My mom got a business place to lease in the square from the Douglas's Family bar and grocery. Farmers back then would go on a farm work program in the USA and Canada this was 1968.
A friend of my Dad Clauide Farquharson brought back a record player for dad base on their arrangements. It was battery powered, because we had no electricity. My older brother and Cousin Jerome and Rupert was working in the capital Mandeville. Every Friday they would by new a record for one shilling and six pence, equivalent to 15 cents. We would play music at the bar every Friday and Saturday nights. It was off the hook Soup, jerk pork, fried chicken, Gambling, dancing everything.
I was 10 years old then and was the apprentice DJ. As the year's went by Rupert went to join the JCF and Jerome went off to high school in Kingston I now became the host DJ. In 1969 Jamaica changed its currency from £ to $. I got my first DJ job to play at Contrivances a adjoining district to Top Hill. I made $6 I was 11 years old and then that was a lot of money. I bought a watch pants length material and a shirt and had left over change. I saw it as business opportunity. I later passed Technical entrance exam for Saint and Technical High School in 1975 in Kingston Jerome was graduating and I was about to start. Being a a city guys we meet up with Gabby who was dating my older lady cousin and he had a sound White horses. Hanging with Gabby he gave my brother and I a 4kt 88 tube amplifier a Garage Turntable and four fifteen inches speaker for a start. Name is Venus we start getting party all over the city.
Years went by and start building on venus more equipment more speakers we change the name to Delphonics. My brother became a Father and was so in love he stopped showing interest, so I took over. Delphonics went wild all over Jamaica Town and country alike. My brother left to Bermuda And still supported me with equipment. I joined the JDF in 1986, Things were going good and Gabby decided to sell out his remaining sound so I suggested it to my Cousin living in NY and we partner up and went on a payment plan with Gabby. Changing the name to Kenyon Force.
I started to produce records with another partner Wesley Savvage with Kenyon Force as the label. continue onwards until my Cousin and I had different with the sound and it fell apart. I started to manage a sound from Massachusetts for a friend. All equipment was shipped to me in Jamaica. Name it Magic International. Wasn't long I Gave it up an migrated to the USA 1999. I built a sound here in the USA. Name it Aswan (reason being all the sounds over the years became one) as1.
Spelling Aswan got that name from encyclopedia research place in Egypt. Company was registered in 2007. Here I am pushing through. Had many of down falls over the years but still determined to fight to victory because of the love of music with the help of my current fans, immediate family and supporters. I'm am currently employed by DEP BWT. As a Machinists.
